The Caravan Tow Vehicle Essentials

We often meet excited customers, excited because they have placed a deposit on a caravan and are ready to explore more of Australia with their family. Once the jealousy passes, we need to find out more. Some important questions once you have purchased a caravan.

1. How much does it weigh? It is important that your vehicle has sufficient towing capacity. Consider that you will also add weight to the caravan when you load up with essential supplies..... Beer & Wine.

2. What kind of brakes does your caravan have? Mechanical or Electric. If your caravan is mechanically braked, relying on inertia to engage the brakes, great, move onto point 3. If your caravan has electric brakes, great, but you will need to fit an electric brake controller to your tow vehicle. The brake controller sends a signal from the tow vehicle to the caravan when the brakes are applied, and in turn the caravan's brakes will engage. The signal can be increase or decrease by the driver.

3. Does your caravan need to be charged? If your caravan has a battery and/or electrical accessories, it likely has a plug for charging. Charging your caravan's accessories or battery is via a 12-pin plug/socket combination, or an Anderson style plug/socket, or both. It is important to understand what your caravan needs before installing any charging equipment in the vehicle.
